Barbara Shay, chef and owner of The Little Red Hen, made the best salmon croquettes, buttery grits, biscuits, and chicken with rosemary picked from her garden. Her daughter, Annisa Faquir, managed the books and the register. Together they created a beloved hub for their community of Altadena, California. It burned to the ground in the Eaton wildfire of January 7, 2025. Ms. Shay is searching for a way to continue feeding people. Maybe a food truck.
